Annual General Meeting ends on successful note
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Malaysian Golf Tourism Association (MGTA) was successfully concluded on 19 July at the Templer Park Country Club.
After nominations for the new MGTA Council for 2016-2018 were closed, the Council comprises of the following:
President – Mr. Ng Eu Shen
Vice President – Mr. Andrew Ng
The Council who are ordinary members are as follows:

7) Write Track Publishing & Communications Sdn Bhd
The President Mr. Ng Eu Shen in his opening address thanked the previous council members for their unstinting support and in particular, outgoing vice president, Mr. Sharudin Kamaruddin for his contributions & dedications to the industry.
He provided the state of golf tourism into Malaysia in relations to regional economy and spoke of the challenging times ahead including the lower number of arrivals. He disclosed that even with a weak ringgit, tourists arrivals declined as promotions budget were slashed tremendously.
The council’s Annual Report was presented. The Digital and Web Report was presented by Mr. Wayne Yu which outlined the number of hits and visitors, among other statistics to MGTA’s two websites www.mgta.com.my and www.playmalaysiagolf.com.my. Wayne also highlighted the immense digital growth the 2 websites have received the last 12 months.
Also presented were minutes and matters arising from the Extraordinary Meeting (EGM) on 25 March 2016. The audited accounts were also presented and after a few queries from the floor , they were passed.
Mr Eu Shen brought up IAGTO’s Golf Course Rating and Data Capture proposal that attracted good debate from the floor on the pros and cons of the matter though no clear decisions were made. However, he reiterated that Data Capture is top priority as directive was received from Ministry of Tourism.
He also spoke on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Northern Golf Resort Association of Thailand (NGRAT) and Mauritius. A delegation from MGTA will be invited to Thailand while a group from Mauritius will visit Malaysia later.
The voting of the new Council was carried out smoothly.
Mr. Eu Shen also announced the Johor Golf Tourism Association (JGTA) was formed as a chapter of MGTA. He added that MGTA will be making visits to Sabah and Sarawak to strengthen ties and arrangements. Also, Mr. Roger Rodrigo was announced as the website content editor.
The meeting was concluded at 4.30pm.
